Faith, works, and grace - why translation and understanding matters - Reading Romans 5:2, some may believe “faith" comes first and that faith is what saves them. “Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” (Rom. 5:2 ESV)
Examining this subject closely in God’s word will reveal - 1st God extends grace - 2nd we accept His grace by trusting Him - this way all glory goes to God - nothing we do earns salvation.
God must draw unbelievers to himself, then they can accept his gift and stand in his grace. We accept his gift by believing what Christ did for us. (Phil 2:13, John 6:44, Rom 2:4, 5:5, Eph 2:5, Is 65:1).
Romans 1:5 and Ephesians 2:8 make this much clearer. Giving God the glory for our salvation demonstrates a humble thankful heart.
